Two weeks since my last firing. Everything is already in the kiln room, including my personal kiln shelves--I have nineteen--that I didn't bother putting away after last time. No clue how much work I have, though a back-of-the-envelope calculation says I definitely need a six-shelf stack.

I go through the usual three stages of loading: 1. Oh no, there's not enough stuff! 2. Oh no, there's too much stuff! and 3. Huh. That's not too bad.

As it happens, there was just enough stuff. I could have fit, maybe, another mug and a few cat food dishes, if I'd had them. And had four pots left over, a pie plate and three small/medium serving bowls.

Loading a firing is a whole panoply of feelings. Oh no, there's too much stuff! Oh no, there's not enough! Where do I start? What goes in next? Is this level? Why are the stilts all different sizes? Did I get all the orders in? I still need this for Market! Is there room for one more pot?

Always amazes me that we're able to go from this--

--to this--

In roughly six hours, including lunch.

Biggest challenge? Estimating where the curve of the arch will be, and what pots will fit where, up on the top shelf.

Gave Denise the camera on Sunday to document the kiln loading. Here's a few of the many shots she took. (She learned photography in the film age. Not having to ration her shots with digital is still kinda intoxicating.)
