I just realized, between Thanksgiving, Holiday Market, and the medical kerfuffle, that I never posted the last two pages in my Oc2ber drawing journal. I did the last one on November 23--holding out, I think, because I wasn't ready to be done. I think I'll make a new sketchbook in January, though I won't necessarily keep to as punishing a schedule. A couple drawings a week, maybe, as inspiration (or boredom) hits.

In the meantime, I'll be doing at least one watercolor sketch a month, for the Art Card Exchange of our book arts group. You've already seen one, the Thanksgiving turkey.

But still enjoying a new drawing every day or so. Here's the next set of four. Defaulting to animals from photos, rather than real life, because honestly? Real life is boring right now. Or stressful. In about equal measure.

Only two pages left in the book. Wonder what they'll bring?

I'm continuing to draw in my Oc2ber sketchbook, though not as rigorously, religiously, obsessively? Okay, I missed a couple of days. Still having fun with it, though, and found, the other night when I was flat exhausted, that sitting down to draw for a little while actually woke me up again.

Art as an energy source. What a concept.

We're somewhere around October 33 (or perhaps March 240), so I thought I'd better update you all on how I did with my Oc2ber drawing challenge.

I did it!

A drawing a day (at least), for the entire month, and I'll probably continue into November, until the pages run out. Here's more pictures.

So I'm still hitting the sketchbook every day, sometimes as early as breakfast. I've taken to adding "Drawing" to my daily To-Do list, though, just as a reminder, so I don't wind up climbing out of bed at a quarter to midnight, as happened once last year.

I'm finding a lot of inspiration from the internets--cute animals are still my favorite thing to draw--though also doing stuff from life. Here's the last week.

More ink drawings for the Oc2ber Challenge!

Since we took Wednesday off, to drive down to the coast, I took along the sketch book and did multiple pics, so this is really only four more days.
i really want to rub that bellya bridge too far
I really wish feral kitty would be this relaxed when I'm around. She's gotten so she knows I bring the kibble, and won't dash if I'm more than ten feet away, or clearly doing something unrelated, in a different direction. But she's just so skittish.

The Owosso Bike Bridge over the Willamette is one of my favorite spots to stop and gaze. Sadly, it's less accessible right now, they're doing some kind of construction at the wastewater plant, and have closed the path from the post office around the back of the plant. I can still get there, but I have to go all the way around Pluto. (Some years ago, the city set up a clever model solar system along the bike paths. The sun and Mercury are in Alton Baker Park, the other planets scattered proportionately around the system. Pluto is up off River Avenue, a good seven miles away.)

As it was foggy all the while we were there, the lighthouse was lit and rotating. The last sketch was from the photo already posted earlier. I loved the feathers, so had to give them a go.

My first four pages of the October inkling challenge. Two from life, two from images on the internet. As usual, I like the animals best; I just can't bring the same focus to drawing vegetables.

Inklings

Needing some distraction from, oh, everything, I decided it would be fun to do another drawing challenge for October. I even had the perfect little book I'd made, with pages from a rescued drawing paper pad.

If only I could find it.

Turned the desk upside down, looked through all the boxes of book projects, and finally faced the fact, Wednesday night, that if I was gonna do drawings this month, I'd have to use a different book. The only blank book I could find had thin pages and an uninspiring cover.

So I made a new one.

It's got heavy drawing paper pages, a gelli-printed cover in fall colors, with leaf prints. Perfect for an October drawing challenge.

Except it isn't Inktober anymore. The originator of the word went and trademarked it, and then his lawyers--possibly without his permission--started issuing cease-and-desist orders to people trying to sell cards and art that had "Inktober" in the branding.

Sigh.

So this year, I'm calling it Oc2ber--my second year, right? And I think I'm gonna retag last year's drawings Inklings, along with the new ones, so they're all easy to find.

Here's a look at the book. Drawings soon.
