Black and white
Jan. 25th, 2016 10:39 amI start every pottery decoration with a line drawing. Usually black stain, though some patterns still want to be cobalt blue, drawn with one of my trademark handmade brushes. I'll do anywhere from three to ten drawings, then come back and fill in with colored oxides and stains.
Every now and then, usually when I'm totally beat at the end of a long day, I wonder whether I could get away with just black and white. I've even tried it occasionally, on Empty Bowls, but I keep coming back to color. Here's a couple of before-and-after photos. What do you think?
