This last week was one for split-second timing. We got back from Anacortes Monday. On Tuesday, we loaded the glaze kiln. Wednesday, I fired it. Thursday, while the kiln was too hot to open, I sorted and restocked the van: pottery, wrapping paper, bags.

Friday was a matter of every hour, a different task. First, drive down to Club Mud to crack the damper, open peeps and burner ports to start the kiln cooling. Home to bake cookies for the weekend, get a weather report, collate show info and load the folder into my show bag. Back to Club Mud to draw out the damper, unclamp the kiln door, keep cooling. Pick up ice for the road show cooler on the way home. Lunch, then Denise and I drive up to Silverton to set up the booth for this weekend's show. Back to Eugene, slide the kiln car out a few inches, walk over to the Chinese buffet place for a quick supper. Back in Club Mud, we unload the kiln, sort, price and box the pots I need for the show, and put them in the van. And so to bed.

Timing is further complicated by the weather. Set-up begins at noon, but showers are predicted for late afternoon, thunderstorms overnight, so we want to set up as early as we can. As it happens, it starts raining as we leave Eugene, but stops again around the Harrisburg exit. Showers again around Albany, then dry again.

Of course it's raining as we take the exit into Salem, but tapers off by the time we drive the 20 miles to Silverton, and is just barely spitting droplets as I go to check in. It's stopped by the time we get the van to our space, so we get to set up dry, but after our experience in Anacortes, we decide to wait until morning--after the predicted thunderstorms--before we put pots on the shelves.
