Skeletons in the attic
Apr. 23rd, 2025 03:08 pmI have a regular customer, Elmina, who's been buying from me for years. She's a realtor, and started buying pieces to stage houses, then as housewarming presents for clients, then things for her own home. But I never really knew how she found my work in the first place, until now.
The story starts in 2002. She was representing a house that needed a lot of work, dry rot in the roof, mostly. The contractor was working in the attic, and found three boxes of pottery. He called the owners, who said they didn't want it, he should just dispose of it, so he offered it to Elmina.
She sent me pictures of some pieces. They're definitely mine, from that period. Lots of cobalt blue, but also the beginnings of the black and red stains I use today.

It took her a few years to track me down, pre-Google Image Search. I don't sign my pots, using a stamp instead, which didn't make it any easier. But she did eventually see me at Saturday Market, and has been a regular ever since.
But I have no idea who left those pots in the attic.
