I still get fascinated by the accidental patterns production pottery throws up. Had a professor who used to do constructed sculptures of multiple repeated units. He said, I don't care so much about individual pieces, no matter how interesting; show me a bunch of things, all alike, and I'll go to town with that sh--t.


Times like this, I totally get it.

Very cool! For the handles, do you pull them all off one big "carrot" or do they each get their own?

Each their own. Roll out the tapered carrots, thwap them on a square of drywall to pre-flatten. Helps with size control if they all start from the same size blanks.

I had not seen that; thank you! It's definitely helpful as I didn't realize how flat you flatten them! And cutting to the curve of the cup makes sense but hadn't occurred to me before. I've actually been pretty lucky with attaching them (have never had any break or fall off), but have issues with getting the right size/shape & keeping them from going crooked in the kiln.
