Got a letter in Friday's mail saying that Peak Internet, where I've had both offcenter.biz and Denise's website, pulpromances.com hosted for maybe fifteen years, is getting out of the hosting business. Arrgh.
I posted a request for recommendations to the Saturday Market members Facebook and got one reply, heavily slanted toward newbies; my website has over twenty years of content. I'm not planning to rebuild it in WordPress or SquareSpace. I asked the Market office folks where their website is hosted. Turns out they're also on Peak, so looking for a new home.
So I did some online research for other local hosting options, and settled on one with over fifteen years in operation, 5-star rating with over 30 reviews, and clearly available pricing information on their website. Talked to the co-owner yesterday, got an email with quote and list of steps to follow, and just spent the last half hour putting together a list of logins and passwords. Peak doesn't close down until September 1, so it's not a rush order. I'm feeling reasonably confident I'm making the right choice, but just... hesitant to pull the trigger.
Change is hard, y'all.
