I swept him up into a pan and carried him outside before the cat came to investigate.

Goodness! We've had a few black racers slither in and get chased out by the cats, but nothing that big!

That's an extreme close-up--curled up like that, he's maybe 2 inches across, 8 inches long stretched out.
