I got an email asking about the possibility of shipping a platypus plate.

To Lithuania.

I've gotten these emails before, but they're usually boilerplate spam/scams. This one talked about a specific item and pattern, and included a screenshot from my website of the piece. She also gave me a full name, address, and, when I needed it to estimate UPS/FedEx/DHL, a phone number.

As it happens, I had two platypus dessert plates in the last firing, one a special order, so I'm seriously facing the possibility that I'll become famous in Vilnius. If we can get past the fact that the best price I've been able to find from a legitimate source is over $44. On a $26 plate.

You wouldn't believe what I have to pay for shipping costs from the US on eBay these days. $44 US is a bit above the average, and that's to mail small light things to Canada. eBay is using a courier service and shipping fees range from around $20 to $70 for the same item, sometimes even more than that. I think twice about buying a $10 toy when shipping is $26 US or more. So don't sweat it, $44 to Europe for a drop-kick resistant package is to be expected and probably much better than eBay shipping fees.
