...to take out the bag of used cat litter that was stinking up the place. Good half-inch shell of ice welding the garbage bin closed. Times like this, I'm so glad I work from home.

A space heater on a box on the front passenger car seat is a great way to thaw out and defog an iced-over vehicle without starting the engine. Heat setting on low. Shut the door on the power cord with the plug hanging out so you can just plug it in an hour before you need the vehicle. (I have to keep my space heater indoors because it's cold 'round hereabouts, at ten below and colder the space heater won't turn on unless preheated by keeping it indoors.) I use the space heater trick most of the year, racing off to work is no fun if you have to hang your head out the window to see where you're going.

Silicon spray helps with sticky car doors too. Might do something for iced garbage lids.
