Well, I exaggerate. Three hundred, tops.

I was going to take a week off. Catch up here, finish some office work. Maybe even read a library book before they all expired. All the pots were made and drying, and I wasn't going in to start glazing for another week.

Then last Saturday, I got an email from my gallery up in Olympia, the one that actually pays for the pots they order? (As opposed to taking them on consignment and dribbling checks my way.) Sent me their spring order. Half a dozen soup bowls, a few covered crocks, eight pasta bowls, and thirty tall mugs. So it was back to the studio again. Fortunately, I had recently got in a ton of clay that, for a change, was perfect throwing consistency, so that helped a lot.

Meanwhile, Denise and I viewed the "So You're Getting a New Knee" video from her surgeons, and realized that, holy sh*t, we were not ready for this.

The thing is, our house is crowded. Books, art supplies, boxes of stuff that might be used to make books or art, magazines set aside to be gone through, clippings from magazines waiting to be filed. I won't quite say it's Hoarders level... okay, it's Hoarders level. In the past, Denise has wanted to go through stuff herself, but with her knee in the shape it is, that's clearly not workable, so she's finally delegating to me.

So everyday this week, right after lunch, I set an hour timer and go sort boxes. The plan is to clear out and organize the back of her office to the point where we can stash boxes wholesale, clearing up enough room for an armchair, foot rest and lamp in the front room, and incidentally making walker-width access to kitchen, bedroom, dining room bathroom.

We're making progress. The trash and recycle bins went down very full Thursday night, and I've gotten down to the back office. Not sure how much I'll get done this week--I just started glazing again for an April 2 firing--but I have hope. Now I gotta figure out some sort of ramp for the front steps; I have one on the studio door, but the hallway to the kitchen is probably too narrow to navigate. Sigh.

And while this is going on, I'm also finalizing our taxes. State and federal income tax, transit district self-employment tax, and oh, didn't I do a show in Anacortes last year? Washington sales tax. About the only thing we missed was the new Eugene Public Safety business tax, because we're ever-so-slightly outside the city limits.

The other project I'd scheduled for this week off was designing a bookmark to promote Clay Fest. We're actually able to meet in person this year, so want to start getting the word out early, even though the show isn't until October.

In addition I had to send out my own postcards; Saturday Market is less than a week away! Design and print cards, buy stamps, print labels, look for rubber bands to bundle the cards together for the mailbox. (There aren't any, at least none that haven't rotted away with age. Tied 'em up with string instead.) And make an email version and send them out as well.

And, of course, I'm loading and unloading bisque kilns, and packing and shipping a couple of special orders that came in--one from Olympia: He wanted to replace a broken octopus mug, and the gallery was out. Which led to them realizing they needed to make their spring order...

Which brings back to where we started.
