My mom in Wisconsin says it's snowing again. My friend Sara, up in St. Johns, has been without power for a week now, thanks to their snow-and-ice storms. Me? I've got crocuses coming up in the backyard. Daffodils pushing up buds along the sidewalk.

I also saw juncos, a wren and a hummingbird in the same apple tree, just across the neighbor's fence, and a male starling is singing his heart out on the black walnut tree.

We've been very fortunate in Eugene this winter. This is the closest we've been to a snowman so far.
