Firing, continued

offcntrI chickened out and shut the kiln down manually after six and a half hours on high. Bisque looks okay, if cool, cone just starting to deform: about 07 or so.
I then do what I should have in the first place: reload the kiln sitter, close the lid on the empty kiln and switch everything to high. Cone dropped in about two hours, so I guess it's safe to fire again.
Update, two days later: I loaded the rest of my greenware into the kiln and fired it last night, going to high at 8:50. Snapped awake out of a sound sleep at 1:30 am, so went to check on the kiln. Peeps were glowing red and the sitter had dropped, so I went back to bed, much relieved.
