I did a thing

I haven't been nearly as housebound as many in this quarantine. My studio is right here at home, and though I had to go down to Club Mud to glaze and fire, it was largely empty during those days, and when it wasn't, we mostly masked and stayed apart. Likewise, when I biked down to the Post Office to ship work, mask and prepaid postage so I could drop off my boxes and scram. Grocery store and pharmacy are a little more fraught, but I only go every couple of weeks, and wash hard afterwards.
But my hair was a mess. Hadn't had it cut since January. My barbershop is open again, on limited hours, but I don't trust the rather flaky owner, or my regular barber, a good-ol'-boy, to do a proper, safe job.
I have heavy hair; wavy, thick (except on the top, where age and maleness are having their way). It doesn't grow down, it grows out, and up. If I comb it, it makes waves like Bozo the clown. If I don't it explodes out into a halo. Add the fact that we're finally getting summer weather, hot and sweaty, and something had to give. Denise is luckier. Her hair is fine and straight, and only really needs the bangs trimmed now and again. I can do that easily enough. She didn't want to touch mine, though.

I considered a buzz cut. We have an electric clipper (actually a pet groomer), purchased to trim seam allowances when sewing teddy bears. It's got clip-on spacers to adjust length, but the deepest one is still only a quarter-inch, and I just wasn't quite prepared for a crew cut (what we call a "butch" haircut back when my Dad cut our hair).
This morning, I broke. Got out my sewing shears, stood in front of the bathroom mirror, and had at it. My hair was starting to wave out at the halfway point, so that's where I cut it. Along the sides, I could see (more-or-less; had to have my glasses off) what I was doing. Around the back, I went more-or-less by touch, as I certainly couldn't see it, and even if I had an extra mirror, wasn't sure I'd be able to interpret what I saw anyway.
I even went ahead and trimmed my sideburns, mustache, and took the points off of my eyebrows.
It may look a little feral? But it feels so much better.

You did a great job, if you ask me.
