Head down

It's been over a week since I last updated here. Some of it's been busy, but a lot of it is just not being able to face the world. My family and friends in Minneapolis are all right, though one lives right in the area most affected by the first night's burning. I'm still not really able to write about the death of George Floyd, because it's a f**king horrible thing and the way police and politicians are doubling down only makes it worse. I don't know how to cope, beyond pitching money in worthy directions, putting my head down, and losing myself in work.

1. Finished glazing, loading, firing the kiln. Here's a few more pieces from the last day's glazing. The cactus wren and roadrunner were orders, the seagull was just for fun.

2. Continued prepping for Saturday Market. I needed to make the booth more accessible for me, which meant cutting back a foot from my display bench, so I can move from back to front more readily, largely to disinfect pots after people handle them, I'm afraid. This is my new, four-foot bench, waiting for a coat of indoor/outdoor varnish. We've also had a problem for years with dropping booth hardware on the ground and not being able to find it; galvanized wing nuts on grey concrete are a particular problem. Behold, the solution. Guess we're now red-wingnut pottery. (My Minnesota friends will get that, I hope.)

3. Selling things? I mean, I had a lot of special orders to pack and ship, including three dozen mugs for Great Harvest Bakery. (They loved them. Gordo says to let him know when I'm coming in next, he'll put more credit on my bread card.) But I also had four more customers email or phone to buy pots. Some needed to be shipped out, others are here in town. A couple stopped by in person to pick out their pots; the rest I'm delivering tomorrow when I go get Denise's laptop out of the shop. And I got two more email inquiries last night.
