Today for #DecRecs I want to talk about Saint Cavish a Chinese food youtube channel run by Christopher St. Cavish

I'm always a little careful about media by white dudes about China but I was intrigued by the series of videos where Italian chefs visit "China's Noodle Homeland" -- which turned out to be really good! I've since watched a lot more of the channels videos
The videos are thoughtful, never treating the food as too weird or exotic and do a good job of putting stuff in context both historical and with regard to modern China
Day 23
Today for #DecRecs I want to rec fancy seam finishing for sewing projects! I mentioned in an earlier rec that this year I've been sewing a lot of garments for myself. For all of those I've used either french seams or flat felled seams and they are so nice to look at and so stratifying to make!

Day 25
For today's #DecRecs I want to share some of my favorite songs so far form the Chinese reality show Crush of Music which I'm part way through watching having just finished episode 4
Crush of music is a show where songwriters demo original songs and then through a mildly gameifed process are matched with a singer (or two) who then preforms the song.
It's a really fun low stress show and features some of my favorite singers ! I can't really rec the show though because the subtitles are very very bad -- I'm just watching in anyways even though I can only understand about half of what people are saying

Dec. 25th, 2025 05:00 pmnicolagriffith_feedHappy Christmas! Here’s the tree Kelley lovingly decorated this year, a 7-foot Noble Fire spangled with lights, tinsel, and many baubles old, new, homemade and loving gifts.
Every year Kelley decorates a tree. Every year I try to find a new way to blow it up. I don’t use so-called AI. Just old-fashioned augmented reality SFX apps that run on my phone. But as everyone else is using the machines to do this sort of thing for them, no one is updating apps. So in the end, it came down to our nemesis from Long Ago, Old Flamebreath, making very short work of the pretties. Very short work indeed.
May your holiday be warm and toasty. Just not that toasty.

Pope Leo condemns suffering in Gaza in his Christmas sermon

Recalling the incarnation of God through Jesus’s birth in a Bethlehem manger, Leo likened God’s word to "a fragile tent among us."
He then drew a direct parallel, asking: "How then can we not think of the tents in Gaza, exposed for weeks to rain, wind and cold; and of those so many other refugees and displaced persons on every continent, or of the makeshift shelters of thousands of homeless people in our own cities?"
The pontiff also reflected on the vulnerability of "defenseless populations, tried by so many wars," and the plight of "young people forced to take up arms, who on the front lines feel the senselessness of what is asked of them, and the falsehoods that fill the pompous speeches of those who send them to their deaths."
