Denise got an appointment for her first COVID shot today, scheduled for Saturday, the 20th. I'm relieved: she's extremely high risk with her arthritis meds, and five years older than me to boot.

I got an emailed invitation to sign up as well, but as near as I can tell, I'm not actually eligible? Under 65, not teacher or healthcare nor getting home healthcare. So I guess I don't sign up. But why did they send me the invite? I'm preregistered, so they should know it's not my turn yet. (Though I'd really like it to be.)

I'm confused.

They sent that invite to my partner as well, and she isn't eligible at all! She's over 45, but otherwise nothing about her qualifies. I think maybe they sent out invites on accident?

I got that invitation, too, though I am also not eligible. To complicate matters, I wrote LCPH last week and told them I had gotten my first dose, so I no longer needed that.

I tried to register for a second dose, but there was a drop-down menu of clinic dates and places and the one I attended wasn't on the list.

Good for Denise. Hang in there, Frank. One day soon we will all be around my table.

The whole so-called system for getting vaccination appointments is confusing all over the country. I wish they had put me in charge of it a couple of months ago. In my system, if there is an eligible adult, their entire household would get the vaccine at the same time. My under-65 partner got an invitation from his health care provider and an emailed letter saying he was eligible. He has no idea WHY he would be eligible, but he took the appointment and got the vaccine. The day of his appointment, our state lowered the eligibility age to 60, which means he now qualifies.

If I were you I would sign up for an appointment if there is one available conveniently close to you. Show up and get vaccinated and if questioned, say they invited you!

It's good Denise is getting the jab. I'd say sign up. In NZ, if a person in category 1a gets the jab, then the rest of the whanau (1b - household contacts) will get it too, even if they would otherwise be low-priority. (Not sure about groups 2 & 3...) They might do something similar where you are.

Could always email them, but I imagine the health workers in your country are stressed and overworked beyond belief.
