Filling time
Oct. 23rd, 2019 08:40 pmI ran out of bisque Tuesday, right after lunch. Everything I had was glazed, the next batch wouldn't be cool enough to unload from the kiln until evening. Normally, I'd have taken the afternoon off, but I had the 3 pm appointment with my journalist. What to do?
Well, I started by organizing my studio space. I'd rearranged it to accommodate another potter, and odd bits of bisque and demonstration projects were still scatter about, including spare tiles from at least three different backsplash projects. In fact, I had enough 4x6" bisque to glaze and decorate another tile mirror frame. Since rhinos were on my mind, and I'd been having so much fun with the baby elephant pattern, I decided to go with an African wildlife theme. (Previous ones had included sea life, the Great Plains, and Alaska.) I finished the line drawing on five of eight tiles before Sienna arrived, and went on to finish the project after she left.

Dang, that gazelle... that's pretty good arting.
Oh, and a bonus before-and-after: the large serving bowl that started my day.
