It's been a really crazy week, glazing and decorating literally hundreds of pots, while also getting my COVID booster and keeping up with my drawing challenge. It all ended today with a final drawing and thirty-odd bowls glazed. Tonight I can take a breath, pick up a pizza and watch the new Dr. Who. (First impressions? I wish they'd been a little less ambitious.) Tomorrow we load the kiln and see how much fits.

I'll be posting another batch of ink drawings sometime this week. You can also see a more complete set of glazing pictures on my Instagram. For now, though, here's a sampling.

As usual, I did a lot of special/custom orders. Octopus pasta bowls and honeybee honey jars for a gallery in Olympia, bison pasta for the couple who've been replacing their wedding china one piece at a time (this one's a present for her mom), and two sets of itty-bitty mugs for two sets of grandchildren.

Many years back, I did a pair of donburi (Japanese style covered bowls) for some customers. Now they want three more, at least two of which are inspired by Norse myth: Odin's ravens and Thor's goats.

The teapots are purely for me. We sold several this summer, and I wanted some new ones going into the holiday season.

And I always need pie plates. In fact, Tsunami Books just emailed to say they were down to one pie, so I'll have to take more even before the fring is out.

One of the first things Denise and I got for our new house, twenty-plus years ago, was a glass-fronted display cabinet, for pottery, sculpture, and fragile knick-knacks that we didn't trust the cats not to gravity-test. It's in a corner between my office and the front door, and has built-in lighting, with a three-phase dimmer controlled by touching the right top hinge. We generally leave the lights out, unless showing things off to company. (Yeah, I know, what's that?)

So it's extra unsettling to get up before sunrise and see it glowing dimly in the corner.

I suppose one of the cats could have jumped up on the file cabinet and put a nose to the hinge, but nothing else on the desk or cabinet showed any sign of disturbance.

I'm gonna go with ghosts.

Every now and again, I get a painting on a pot that just nails it. Here are three close-ups from the last glaze cycle I'm particularly proud of. (If I remember correctly, they were all serving bowls for Childhood's End Gallery.)
