Spent Labor Day at home, finishing off this production run, trimming bowls and loading and firing a bisque kiln. Today I began glazing. I had a limited choice of bisque, only one kiln-load at the studio, so started with tall mugs. I have a bunch of special orders: octopus, platypus, javelina, a his-and-hers wedding set with spotted owl and marbled murrelet (he's a forester. There may be an element of teasing involved).

I seem to have lost two mugs--I know I made thirty, somehow I only found twenty-eight. Hopefully, they're in the bisque that's cooling right now. Found all the tumblers, glazed them, along with the toilet brush holders. Cookie jars will wait for the morning, and Denise will come in to help wax and glaze the incense dragons and cat banks.

The studio was kind of a mess when I got there, and I wasn't sure where to put my finished work. Jon had pots spread all over the kiln room, and Nicole had colonized the shelves in my space--we share an alcove, but I've got a bigger shelving unit. As it turned out, they were sharing a firing in the big kiln, loading today, so by mid-afternoon, when I finished by 38 mugs and tumblers, they'd put almost everything in the kiln. Plenty of room for me to start filling up.

Last thing I painted today was the special order toilet brush holders. Not sure this post is safe for work: there's a lot of bear butts showing.
