Work expands
Aug. 28th, 2017 08:41 amI dropped one of my fall shows; Corvallis Fall Festival is a lovely event, and we usually sell well there, but it's inconveniently timed. Too close to Clay Fest, and following an August with shows in Anacortes and Silverton, it makes it difficult to make and fire more pots and still be well-supplied for Clay Fest.
I actually dropped three shows this year: Roseburg in June, Salem in July and Corvallis in September. The first two didn't gain me any extra time, as I spent three weeks in Wisconsin (and driving back to Oregon) in late June and early August. September…
Who was it that said, Work expands to fill the time available? (I looked it up. It's C. Northcote Parkinson.)
I'm doing two jobs for Clay Fest this year, Graphic Design and Registrar. Both sort of explode this part of summer. I've also taken the Publicity Design job for Clayfolk, in November, so have begun a timeline for their art needs, started on their signage. And next year I'm Poster chair for Ceramic Showcase, another new job for me that requires some long-term planning.
We're also talking about some long-overdue upgrades to our house, so I've been dealing with estimators and contractors. We're selling our old car, which needs some repairs, and cleaning up before the new owner picks it up. And I just bought a used electric kiln that will need some rebuilding before it gets installed in the studio. (Plus I now have to get rid of the old one...)
It's a wonder I have time for throwing pots at all.
