Baba Yaga's dream
Mar. 17th, 2017 09:58 amBeen thinking of Baba Yaga's Dream today, as I finish glazing my new sculpture. Baba Yaga's was a feminist coffeehouse on Willamette Street back in the early 90's. I have fond memories of live music there, including Cosy Sheridan, Annie Gallup, and the CD release for Katie Henry's Bears in the City, complete with dancing bear in trench coat (who turned out to be fellow musician Laura Kemp).
I'm working with mostly dry colors, underglazes and stains, though I put a clear coat on the windows, for shine. Painted and wiped off iron and black stains, to emphasize texture on the roof, for instance, or the porch. Layered colors over colors to weather surfaces, bring out patterns. It was a surprisingly fast process; I finished the house yesterday afternoon, did the chicken legs and the little girl and front porch this morning.
Fingers crossed it fires okay…
