I hate being out of touch.

Case in point: right after Clay Fest, Denise and I flew back to Wisconsin for two weeks, to visit family and continue the arduous process of clearing her mother's basement of 50+ years of stuff. The weekend after we left was the Clayfolk booth pick meeting, down in southern Oregon. I'd asked a friend to choose a booth for me, if he was going. If not, the show chair or some other friend could choose.

And then I forgot to bring his phone number with me.

So for two weeks, I knew I had a booth for Clayfolk. But I had no idea which booth, or indeed how big it was. When the first confirmed participants list went out, I qualified for a half booth, 10 ft. wide by 5 ft. deep; I was hoping desperately to have graduated to a full, 10 by 10 ft. booth, if for no other reason, to have room for boxes of restock.

So, no idea what booth I'd gotten, no way to get in touch. Stress much?

Then I had an idea. I went on my tablet to the Clayfolk website, clicked through to the Show Participants page where the map and list reside. Score! I not only had a full booth, but a corner one as well!

Then I noticed that, while the map was current to 2016, the list was still last year's, with last year's booth assignments. Waaah!

I emailed the webmaster, who replied that they hadn't yet gotten the list from the chair, but would post it just as soon as they did…

I swear, I went back to that page every day. Twice a day, sometimes. When my wifi hotspot hit its data limit sometime during the second week, I used my phone, holding it up to the window where it got a half-bar's reception. The weekend at my mother's place, where I had no bars at all, was agony.

It didn't get any better when we got back. Unbeknownst to us, sometime while we were gone, our landline (and internet) had failed, so I was still tied to the phone, which was also running up against data limits.

I finally learned my booth assignment Wednesday: a half booth. sigh. But on Thursday, I got a phone call from the chair--there'd been a drop and would I like a full--Yes!--booth?

Centurylink fixed the phone (and DSL) yesterday, so I can finally get back online. Update my website, post to my blog, read my favorite comics, download some podcasts to listen to in the studio.

Because I really need to be in there making pots.
