Countdown to Ceramic Showcase
Apr. 27th, 2015 11:35 amThe Oregon Potters Association Ceramic Showcase opens next Friday at 10 am, so we're on countdown to final approach...
Last two weeks. Finish committee work, which in this case meant tracking down final information for the map handout, proofreading, going to press last Monday, and then spending the rest of the week replying to emails explaining that, no, I can't make any more changes because it has gone to press, and we don't have to budget to make customer alterations after they've pre-pressed our files. Urrr.
Yesterday. Denise and I dodged raindrops and sorted, priced, inventoried and boxed pots, and loaded up the van. Very full. I hope there's still room for the other necessities.
Today. Wash the table cloth and get it into the van, along with extra display hardware, lights, seat cushions. Also spread out the canopy to dry, put it way until after the show. Prepare supplies for my brush making demo and put them in the van. Put gallery piece, empty bowls contributions, plates charity donation in the van. Reread the move-in packet and see if I have enough cardboard boxes. (Go looking for more cardboard boxes.) Print out my road shows checklist and start ticking off stuff. Make up a folder with motel reservation and move-in packet and phone list. Get a long-range weather forecast online and print out a copy. Confirm dates with the cat sitter.
Tomorrow. Load the roof rack with extra-long shelves and grid panels. Get some black zip ties from BiMart for plate hangers. Decide whether I can hide the gross bits of the carpet one more time. Fit the carpet in the van.
Bake cookies. Go to the credit union and get cash for food. Get some groceries, cat litter, bread, lunch meat. Continue to check things off the list.
Wednesday. Pack food in the cold chest. Make thermoses of tea for Denise. Pack the teapot and electric kettle and teabags for Denise. Fill water bottles for me. Pack fruit and nuts and cookies and find the belly pouch with cash and recruit teddy bears. Pack laptop and sketchbook and ebooks and real books and phones and chargers and GPS and check off the rest of the list. Don't forget the Clay Fest bookmarks.
Have lunch. Bundle everyone into the van. Drive to Portland. [Optional: Turn around and come back for something forgotten.] Go to venue and unload pots and booth hardware. Set up shelves.
Thursday. Set pots on shelves. Sort and store restock. Vote awards for gallery. Greet old friends, share load-in horror stories. Take the afternoon off. Try and get a good night's sleep.
Friday. Profit!
